No Sew Tutu

We love dressing up in our house although sometimes it’s difficult to find a costume to fit little ones properly. So we thought we would share our top tip for quick and easy Tutus!

*If tutus aren’t quite your thing why not check out our DIY Superhero Capes here!*

These tutus only take 30 minutes to whip up and could be adapted for all occasions, we’ve been busy making Halloween Tutus and are looking forward to Christmas Colours for our next project!

You will need:

  • Crochet Tube Headband
  • Tuille or Net-like Material
  • Ribbon

To make a tutu for a toddler you will need approximately 2m of material.

Firstly measure your toddler to decide which length you would like the tutu. Once you have decided on a tutu length cut strips of material approx. 5 inches wide & double the required tutu length.

You will need approximately 40 strips of material however you can use more to create a really full, fluffy tutu!

Once you have cut your strips of fabric scrunch one into a sausage shape, fold in half & feed the loop through one of the middle holes in the crochet headband. It is important that you loop the pieces in the same direction so that the knots face the same direction on the row.

Using two fingers, fold the loop of the fabric over the back of the headband and pull the two pieces through from the front. You’ll quickly develop your own technique to do this bit.

Pull the knot taut and repeat the process around the whole headband.

You can add texture by using more than one strip of fabric and create volume by doing a second layer of loops around the bottom holes.

Experiment with longer and shorter pieces of fabric & go wild with colour combinations!

We hope you have lots of fun making fun Tutus for the family!
